Senior Journalist Reporter

Role Responsibility

You’ll be able to explain complex political stories in a creative and engaging manner, aimed at our target audience. You will use social media intelligently to find stories, and develop a relationship with our audience on the Isle of Man so that they interact with us on our digital platforms, and come to us with their stories.   You’ll work closely with our News Editors and be equally comfortable working on a big investigation as being able to report on a breaking story.

You’ll be expected to develop a network of contacts across the political spectrum and act as a first point of contact should any journalist or presenter need briefing on a political issue.

Other duties will include:

• Shooting, editing and delivering quality news packages for TV and radio
• Delivering original and exclusive journalism and reacting to breaking news
• Provide expert advise on Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan to the wider BBC News teams
• Assist senior colleagues in BBC News Persian in forward planning, commissioning and deployments

The Ideal Candidate

• Confident, creative and experienced journalist full of ideas with the ability to make stories have real impact for the audience.
• Passion for politics and know what’s going on locally in the Isle of Man and the wider political scene in the UK.
• Either already have plenty of local contacts, or a proven track record in establishing them, so you can deliver stories before they appear elsewhere.
• You’ll have proven news judgment, an appetite for original story-telling and a track record of seeking out leads, reporting live and breaking news stories or working on exclusives. C
• Confidence and experience to hold those in power to account. 
• You’ll understand the best formats for delivering stories – whether online, for North West Tonight, Politics North West, or the wider BBC.

Eligible candidates should have the right to work on the Isle of Man.
